Supermarket company Aldi has adopted a cartoon vegetable ‘Kevin the Carrot’ for its latest Christmas campaign.

The 40-second spot seems to be a parody of Coca-Cola’s ‘Truck’ ad, and it ends in a literal cliff hanger. It opens up with a scene showing a winter’s night and a red truck lit with fairy lights driving through a snow-covered road. The background music is reminiscent of Coca-Cola’s Holidays are Coming song as the camera pans to the driver ‘Kevin the Carrot’.

An avalanche suddenly hits the vehicle and knocks ‘Kevin’ and his carrots off the road. The truck dangles off the cliff’s edge before the hashtag ‘#SaveKevin’ appears on screen. Aldi mentions that more is to come and will give the campaign a sequential release.

The ad has been circulating on Twitter, where users have noticed the similarities to Coca-Cola’s classic Christmas campaign. Aldi tweeted, “Our parody Christmas advertising campaigns are famous for capturing the anticipation of the season.”

Coca-Cola took notice and decided to have a bit of fun with the whole situation. The beverage brand tweeted an image of a hook with the phrase, “Need a tow?” to which Aldi responded, “Please be quick. Think I’m losing my bottle!”

The ad has resulted in wonderful back and forth tweets between the brands, which you can read below.
